1. The first coffee drank in space was in 1968 by the Apollo 7 crew.

2.  Lloyd’s of London began as Lloyd’s a 17th century London coffeehouse where seafarers and marine – insurance brokers met to conduct their business.

3. The Finns.  Finns consume about 30 pounds of coffee per person per year. That’s around 1200 cups a year for every man, woman and child in the country.

4. England’s first coffeehouse opened in Oxford in 1650. Fifty years later, there were over 2000 in London alone.

5. Andy Warhol’s “Martinson Coffee” sold at auction for $3,824,000 in 2006.  The silkscreen depicts 18 cans of coffee. That’s $212,444 per can!

6.  Kopi Luwak, or Civet coffee can go for $300 a pound.  It’s made by collecting undigested coffee beans from droppings of the palm civet, a small mongoose-like mammal of Southeast Asia!

7.  The fruit of the coffee tree is called a cherry because it is bright red when ripe.  The cherries grow clustered down the length of a branch, taking six months to turn from green to yellow to red.
